LOW ENERGY AND SOLAR DESIGN

Solar Energy Video Website

The practice has worked for many years in the field of low energy and passive solar design. As consultants we have carried out built projects, produced design advice, run design competitions and made videos.

Work includes: a video introduction to passive solar design for the European Commission and a study into the energy benefits of tree sheltering carried out for the Department of Environment.

Following the merger with Bailey Associates we can now offer full engineering advice on low energy and solar design; more details on Bailey Associates energy conservation work.

Christopher Taylor Court for Bournville Village Trust is a housing scheme for elderly people. The project has a layout designed to maximise solar exposure around two courtyards. The scheme incorporates direct gain windows and mass walls with a selective surface. The scheme received a grant from the European Commission.

The project to convert a large barn in Bath included a new direct gain aperture in the south wall. Unusually the barn had no large opening and was purely used for storing animal feed and housing animals with no access for carts. The double glazed aperture in the south elevation incorporates external doors for night-time insulation and security.
