From our experience in carrying
out design work on sheltered housing, wheelchair accommodation and work
for disabled students, DCA has developed expertise in carrying out access
consultancy. Work includes access audits of existing buildings and plan appraisals. These are analysed in terms of their compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act, which makes significant demands of employers and service providers who are now obliged to make permanent adaptations of their buildings. DCA have discovered that if reviewed creatively, then making a building accessible need not be a matter of "bolt-on" components, but can be an integrated approach to make the building easy to use for everybody, regardless of their abilities.
